The title of the work alludes to the philosophical thought experiment which questions whether the human perception interferes in changing reality. Does reality continue to exist, even when no one is looking?

The images are photographs taken using Google Earth’s platform which showed the digital landscape of the Amazon Forest in Brazil, just as it was represented at the time - summer of 2019 - when there were huge fires being put in the forest due to the interests of the livestock industry and the exploration of the land for soy plantations.Printed on silk — an organic material made by silkworms — these images make use of a material that, in order to be profitable, requires to kill the animals which produce it.

“'In Search of the Forgotten Image' é um vídeo-ensaio narrado por uma planta-imagem, um emoji, que documenta a procura da sua verdade ontológica. Para se conhecer, a planta-imagem indaga sobre a sua anatomia e materialidade e a sua relação com outras plantas. O reconhecimento da sua anatomia é descrito por capturas de ecrã que testemunham movimentos de aproximação ao seu corpo no contexto de ferramentas digitais de edição e visualização de imagem: ora desliza no picotado intermitente que demarca o corpo do seu redor, entre os seus pixéis e os pixéis do todo digital que o circunda; ora percorre a sua geometria vectorial, de ponto a ponto, como se se debatesse com as suas articulações. A procura por uma relação com outras plantas é feita em sequencias de imagens de herbários digitalizados encontradas no “labirinto brilhante”, através das quais imagina semelhanças e “consanguinidades” com o mundo vegetal.

    A projecção do vídeo sobre a superfície de uma mica, um mineral presente nos dispositivos tecnológicos onde circulam emojis, empresta à expressão das imagens e animações qualidades plásticas dos fósseis vegetais. In Search of the Forgotten Image é uma obra poética e especulativa, onde se experimentam processos de representação do não-humano e reflexões sobre a matéria pós-natural, convocando um importante diálogo contemporâneo sobre o papel da mediação tecnológica na nossa relação com a natureza.”

Based on digital visualization technologies, the work explores visual language from techno-scientific practices as a lens for viewing natural ecosystems.

As the project 'School of Transitions' approaches the vast area of Casa de Mateus as a living laboratory, which invites different scientists, researchers and ecologists from diverse fields (geodesign, microbiology, ecological engineering, etc.) to investigate the territory, the work aims to experiment with ways of exhibiting research practices (which are continuous, active and alive). 
Acting as a layer of investigation over photographs of plants, soil, and crops, the images create a correlation between the biodiversity found in Casa de Mateus — vineyards, gardens, orchards (and the various species of plants and microorganisms that coexist there) — and the diversity of images, with their different scales, perspectives and fields of knowledge.
